The Fairy Train

The Fairy Train is a project by the LasseMajas Stiftelse aimed at strengthening language development and reading comprehension among preschool children. The Bonnier Family Foundation, together with AcadeMedia, now supports the initiative to make it accessible to more preschools.

The program provides educators with structured training in read-aloud practices and reading comprehension strategies, where children actively participate in discussions about stories. This approach nurtures curiosity and deepens understanding of texts, building a strong foundation for future reading skills—long before children learn to read independently.

Educators receive ongoing support through training sessions, digital resources, and opportunities to exchange experiences with colleagues from other preschools. The first training session takes place on October 20, 2025, followed by three additional sessions throughout the year.

The program also creates a community for preschools committed to working with reading comprehension in an engaging way. Participating preschools are certified as “carriages” in the Fairy Train and receive book packages, inspirational materials, and access to collaborative learning.

“Now you are carriage number 32 in the train!”—when a new preschool joins the Fairy Train, it is welcomed as a new carriage in a growing community of curious young readers.

Through this initiative, the aim is to give more children a stimulating start to their reading journey and lay the foundation for lifelong learning.
